Ma Zhu: Goddess of Journey
Matsu or Mazhu (literally 'Mother-Ancestor'), mortal name Lin Moniang, is the Taoist goddess of the Sea (an later known as Goddess of Journey, be it in life or travels) who protects fishermen and sailors. She is extremely popular among the Taiwanese, Fujianese, Cantonese, and Vietnamese people, who have cultures strongly linked to the sea. The Matsu Islands are named after her.
